A Year in the Books: Through the Eyes of a Reader

I have spent the better part of my life with my nose in a book. As a child, I remember my mother begging me to go outside and play. She was only ever met with my protests of, “Just one more page,” or “I’m almost done with this chapter”. This interest carried me through my school-aged years and on to a Bachelor’s degree in English. As an adult, my husband and I spend many quiet nights at home reading in front of our fireplace. The stories I have encountered have taught me many lessons and transported me to lands far away. Harper Lee taught me about the injustices in the world. J.K. Rowling taught me that the friendships we build are often just what we need to get through life. Elie Wiesel demonstrated the true grit and perseverance we sometimes need to make it through unimaginable circumstances. To say that my life has been shaped by books is an understatement.

As you make your way through this blog, it is my hope that you find something that brings you joy, a respite from reality, and a place to gather ideas for your next reading adventure. I average reading about one book per week. While I try to diversify my choices, I tend to gravitate towards historical fiction and non-fiction topics that fascinate me. It is my intent to publish monthly book reviews in addition to sit down chats with my husband on our podcast.
